This is an affordable option for handheld gaming that supports the retro scene and developers. There is a quality feel to the device, and I have experienced no issue with tight cartridge insertion. The emulation on the games I have played so far has been spot on. The screen is clear and bright but does have variances with viewing angles and light conditions, as expected. The D Pad has a nice feel with smooth movement and the front buttons have a lovely clear style. The shoulder buttons are micro switch with a satisfying click.I had procrastinated for some time over this purchase, but glad that I finally made the decision to get the EVERCADE. It seems that some of the original design flaws have been rectified and recent firmware updates have addressed some of the functional aspects. It is not perfect (still using micro usb for charging) but it does feel like a proper branded product unlike some of the clone handhelds about. But given I got this £59.99 starter pack with include probably cartridge retailing at £14.99, £45 for this handheld is great value. The biggest selling point for me was the ability to collect the fully licensed cartridges. In the past I have owned multiple devices that would allow you to play more games than ever possible. Reality is, I would spend little time on each game. I would spend more time, deciding what to play than playing. As each cartridge is curated by the EVERCADE team and having anything up to 20 games, I find myself more inclined to play the games. I have never put so much time into Dig Dug and Galaxians as I now have on this.As part of this purchase, I opted for the Oliver Twins Collection, a varied selection of games. In all my years owning a speccy I had never once got anywhere near completing a Dizzy game. However, thanks to the ease of use, save states and less distraction on the device I have completed my 1st one. This brings back the fun of buying and collecting games again and with the games being licensed I will be supporting the retro scene developers.

I wanted to like the Evercade, but it’s hard to when the cartridge slot is so tight it’s borderline painful to insert a game. This fact overshadows its good qualities, and represents a possible lack of user testing, or poor quality control. I certainly don’t recall any other game console with a similar problem. Personally, I feel issues like this are representative of many modern products; people don’t tend to take pride in their work and want to do as little as possible, before rushing home to stare at their phones. Meanwhile, I have a 28-year-old Megadrive in the house, which still works perfectly and the cartridges slot in with ease.

The Evercade is a great product idea for anyone who can remember games of the past or even if you’ve playing these titles for the first time.Emulation of the games is spot on with no lagging, sound and graphics are identical to the original games. All controls feel great and you get the feeling a lot of thought has gone into the layout of the Evercade. There are an amazing amount of retro titles and new games available for this system and each one is as good as the next. The standard of titles is very high. Conclusion, the Evercade is a quality gaming system with a great price tag, if you love retro games or something different, you won’t be disappointed.

Sammlerherz was willst Du mehr?

A great little retro system
This small retro system has a great collection of games, sometimes 20 to a cartridge, from some of the earliest eras of video games. The only problem is that the cartridge slot is a bit tight, and you have to sometimes try really hard to push the cart in and then take it back out. The accompanying Namco Museum cart has 11 games, most of which are pretty good!
